Softball Gloves

Softball gloves can be used by anyone who plays this game. The purpose of wearing these gloves is to protect the hands while the players are involved with the game. For the players who need to hit the softball with the bat the glove they will use is different from that of the glove that you will see the players at the stops wearing. In order to see the way that these gloves work you should take a close look at the gloves.

The first item that you should notice is that these gloves are not as hard as the baseball gloves. These are however made from finest cured leather. The supple strength which is inherent in the leather softball gloves makes the leather the ideal medium to catch any type of fast flying object.

When you look at the glove you notice that is has been made to cover the entire hand area. The design shape of the softball gloves are a natural cup or curve shape. What this means is that glove is provided with a space where the ball can be deposited without injuring the fingers.

Now let’s take a closer look even though many of you are very familiar with this shape. The softball gloves have space for the five fingers to slip into. While this space is wide enough for any sized finger to fit in there is no give and take of the finger space. The entire design of the glove is stiff.

Between the first – or index finger depending on where you live – finger and that of the thumb you will see a wide net like space. It is in this net like space that the players who are fielding must try to catch the ball. The construction of the net is flexible enough so that any ball which lands in here will have enough bounce before settling back down with the ball firmly grasped in the safety of the net.

In the various softball gloves you will see that the thumb area is not as stiff as the other four fingers. This is because you will need to grasp the ball securely in order to prevent it from rolling out of your grasp.

As you see from this brief tour of softball gloves the entire glove has been designed with one express purpose. This is the protection of the hand during the game while you are attempting to catch a fast flying softball.
